map settings

Once you've accessed the grid settings from the toolbar, you'll be presented with a modal panel that contains a wealth of options.

map settings modal

Only the owner can access these settings.

Any changes are not saved until the "Save" button is clicked in the lower right.

Preview

In the top left is the grid preview. This allows you to see the cell shape, background color, and line color before commiting it.

Map Name and Other Meta

To the left of the preview is the map's meta data. The name, campaign, and tags used to find and organize the map.

To the left of the name is the public and lock options.

A public map can be viewed by spectators provided they have the link. It's an easy way to display a map on a smart TV, or invite someone to observe. A private map can only be viewed by the owner and players of the map. Anyone trying to access a private map will be told it simply does not exist.

A locked map can only be edited by the owner. Essentially it turns everyone else into spectators.

Cell Shape and Colors

Below the grid preview is the cell shape selector, background color selector, and line color selector.

Cell Shape

The 3 supported cell shaps are square, flat-topped hexagon, and pointy-topped hexagon. Locations of zones and combatants are always stored using a consistent co-ordinates, so when switching between the 3, nothing will actually more.

What will change is how combatants are drawn, as well as how snapping to the grid is handled.

Square

This is the default. Combatants are drawn as rounded squares. A combatant's size is used as the number of cells per side of the square. Combatants always snap to the grid directly.

Zones snap to the half-cell.

Hex

Both flat-top and pointy top have the same behavior.

Combatants are drawn as circles. A combatant's size is used as the diameter of the circle. A combatant of size 1 will fit neatly within a single hex. Combatants will snap to the the center of a hex, or any vertex.

Zones snap to the center of a hex, or any vertex.

Background Color

The first color selector is for the background. A dull grey is the default.

Line Color

The second color sector is the for the color and opacity of the grid lines. A 50% black is the default.

Participants

Invite and kick other users from the map. Invites are done by email address. If someone doesn't have an account yet, you can still invite them. As long as they use the email address you used to invite them as their sign up, they will have access to your map.
